Yet another pastel for the palate of a poet
By PJ Bayliss
Keeping in my the author's intention to provide a resource for students and teachers, this book fits the bill. It is easy to read and understand and refer to as a resource on any poet's bookshelf. As a seasoned and yet self-taught poet, I have benefited from several learnings discovered within the pages and believe Cynthia's advise will serve to improve my overall writing in the future.
Poetry serves much more than a single thread in the tapestry of literature however. The challenge in producing a book about writing poetry probably lurks within the boundaries of the very subject matter itself. There simply are so many variations, formats, genres and elements that contribute to poetry to describe. Poetry is like a rainbow which appears simplistic on the surface, but within contains an infinite degree of colours than extend beyond the human eye. I am still discovering the world of poetry myself, and the author provides an excellent pastel in which to paint future work with.

For all who love beauty! "...and rain seeks the laughter in your voice"
By Elizabeth Pavlovna
As a writer of sorts myself I've had a lifelong love affair with words. Most of mine have landed in prose and have been nominated for nothing as yet!I Always thought poetry to be the domain of the truly inspired and creative. Such richness within so little!
Reading through Cynthia's book on writing poetry, I now see that yes, even I can write poetry. The exercises and prompts get you going. The simplicity of it all - presence, sensory, no boundaries. It still takes a talent to be able to come up with "...and rain seeks the laughter in your voice" but I can try.
At times the writing sent goosebumps up my spine. I love it. Will read again and again. It is the beauty of the author's hand that draws me to this book, and the possibility that perhaps there is a bone of poetry somewhere hidden in my body.

Highly recommended for anyone wanting to learn how to write poetry.
By Nika
This book has helped me dramatically with improving my poetry writing skills. Particularly the editing skills chapter helped me The Zen of Tulips was a beautiful example of a first draft and it taught me how to approach grammar in my poetry. Also, the Editing techniques section brings a strong point of setting deadlines and trusting your own intuitions is most important.
