*Starred Review* Books abound on the subject of how a dog or a cat can rehabilitate a person’s life, but this account of such an event is stellar. Only a heart of stone will not be moved—even to tears—in bearing witness to the love of a London street musician for the gorgeous ginger tomcat he found one day in his apartment building hallway. The cat, soon called Bob, was injured, so Bowen took him in but planned to nurse him only for a short while. After all, so Bowen’s reasoning went, he had very little surplus money to feed another mouth, and Bob, a “man” of the streets, would undoubtedly soon tire of domesticity and one day run away to hit the streets again. But that never happened. Bowen was a recovering addict and was himself recently just off the streets, and he soon established an intensely simpatico relationship with Bob. He fixed Bob up—and fixed Bob—and took him with him every day as he played guitar at the usual corner spots he’d claimed for himself. Bob became an instant attraction, and the result was increased income for Bowen as more money was tossed into his guitar case. This is a beautiful, never maudlin story of second chances for both man and beast and a poignant testimony to how much caring for someone—or some feline—can give you renewed direction when you’re down and out. Understandably, this was a best-seller when first published in Great Britain. --Brad Hooper

Saw it today, bought it on kindle and read it over the afternoon!
By Hal Carroll
Don't recall where I saw the book cover early this morning, but I fell in love with Bob's picture and bought the Kindle edition. Downloaded it, got sucked in reading the first few pages and didn't put it down until I'd finished reading it a few hours later.
I laughed out loud and had tears running down my cheeks as I read their very touching and heart-warming story ... and I hated that the book had to end.
Thanks for sharing your stories with us, James and Bob!
All the best.

Great book, made me laugh and cry
By Kindle Customer
Great book, made me laugh and cry, and I, a lifetime lover and "owner" of cats, was enthralled and delighted and sad and happy. Most of all, I am so happy for James! That Bob has made such a huge difference--and animals do, as they are God's gifts to us--is wonderful, and I pray you, James, continue to grow and thrive and be blessed. Jesus loves you! Thanks for sharing your amazing story and kisses to Bob. :) This is my cat, Ari (his name means Lion) and he has been harness and leased trained since I got him at about 3 months old. He's a rescue, too, but mostly, he rescued me from lonliness. He's my best buddy. :) God bless you, James, and Bob.

Feel Good Story of Redemption
By Lynnibo
This is the best read I have had in a long time. First heard about it on TV, where they interviewed the author. It is based on a true story and I would love to see it as a movie. I had a ginger tom who died at the age of 13. He was so sweet a companion but he never did the amazing stuff this cat did. It is as though this cat was sent by God or an angel, to help this man find a sense of guidance and purpose, thus changing his life. It reveals so much about others and how they perceive the homeless and down-on-their-luck. It does much to reinforce my belief that animals are put here to make us better people, so we should be their guardians and protectors in return. Awesome book.
